Santa Margherita Ligure

---

Santa Margherita Ligure has several excellent choices, from grand seaside hotels to smaller boutique properties. Based on current guest ratings, location, amenities, and overall character, these are the ones I’d put on your shortlist:

🌊 Top hotels to consider

• Grand Hotel Miramare - Best for classic Riviera luxury. A historic, elegant hotel directly on the waterfront, with a beautiful pool and gardens. Tripadvisor currently shows 4.7/5 from 1,313 reviews.

• Hotel Continental - Best for sea views and atmosphere. Right on the water, with a particularly scenic setting. Tripadvisor currently lists 4.3/5 from 1,310 reviews.

• Hotel Metropole - Best all-rounder. Waterfront location, private beach, outdoor pool, spa and a large garden. Booking.com currently gives it 8.7/10, with location at 9.4/10.

• Imperiale Palace Hotel - Best for old-world grandeur. An impressive historic property with sea views, gardens and a more secluded feel. Current Tripadvisor rating is 4.3/5 from 557 reviews.

• Villa Gelsomino Exclusive House - Best boutique option. A smaller, more intimate property with exceptionally strong guest feedback; Tripadvisor currently lists it at 4.8/5.

• Hotel Sant'Andrea - Best smaller hotel. A charming choice if you prefer something intimate rather than a large resort; current business listings show 4.7/5.

• Park Hotel Suisse - Good value for a traditional hotel. Central, with a pool and sea-oriented setting, while generally costing less than the grand luxury properties.

One important distinction: Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino and Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino are nearby but actually in Portofino, not Santa Margherita Ligure. They're worth considering if you're looking for an ultra-luxury splurge rather than specifically staying in Santa Margherita.

If you tell me your dates and approximate budget per night, I can narrow this to 3-4 hotels and check current prices/availability.

✅ Recommendation

If you want classic Riviera luxury, book Grand Hotel Miramare. For a romantic Belle Époque vibe, choose Imperiale Palace Hotel. For a balanced mid-range option with sea views, Hotel Metropole or Continental are excellent. Budget-conscious travelers should consider Best Western Regina Elena or Santa Margherita Palace & SPA.

Would you like me to prepare a 2-day itinerary in Santa Margherita Ligure with hotel + dining + Portofino excursion so you can see how to maximize your stay?

If you want the quintessential Italian Riviera experience without the chaotic crowds of nearby Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure is the perfect home base. My absolute top recommendation is the Grand Hotel Miramare , an Art Nouveau icon managed by the same family since 1945 that effortlessly blends old-world "La Dolce Vita" glamour with incredibly warm, personalized service. However, depending on whether you want direct beach access, a hip boutique vibe, or a peaceful cliffside hideaway, there are a few other stellar properties to consider.

Here is my curated list of the best places to stay in town:

✨ 5-Star Grand Luxury Hotels

I'd choose the Miramare if you want a fairytale setting with modern updates. Highlights include their newly reimagined Bagni Mira beach club with its 1950s-inspired stripes, and the Vistamare restaurant which serves exquisite seafood overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio. It sits comfortably on the flatter coastal stretch, making it an easy 45-minute stroll along the "Walk of Kisses" straight into Portofino.

This historic, palatial property sits on a dramatic stretch of rocky beach just outside the town center. It leans heavily into its Belle Époque roots with frescoed ceilings and manicured historic grounds. Choose this if you want a grand, stately atmosphere and don't mind a brief, scenic walk to reach the harbor restaurants.

🏖️ 4-Star Premium & Beach Resorts

The Continental is arguably your best option if your holiday priorities revolve around sunbeds and direct swimming. Perched on a high promontory, it features a fantastic private cliffside beach club and a 400 m² spa with an infinity pool that merges seamlessly with the sea. Note: Because it's up on a cliff, be prepared for a steep walk back up from the marina.

Located right next to the Continental, the Metropole offers a premium experience with spacious rooms and gorgeous sea views. It boasts a luxurious wellness center, an indoor pool, and a lush park setting. It's highly favored by travelers who want close proximity to both the train station and the town's central promenade.

🌿 Chic Boutique & Hidden Gems

If grand historic hotels aren't your style, this hip boutique property is an absolute delight. It features homey, curated vintage interiors, an outstanding breakfast, and a highly praised staff. It's tucked centrally into town, making it exceptionally convenient for exploring local shops, bakeries, and public beaches.

Housed in a beautifully restored villa, this 3-star property punches well above its weight class. It is tucked away on a quiet side street but is still only a 5-minute walk from countless local restaurants and the water. It features airy, elegant rooms and a tranquil garden terrace perfect for morning coffee or an evening aperitivo.
