Would you like me to filter these options by proximity to Taranto’s historic center or by beach access so you can choose based on your travel priorities?

Taranto has a fascinating layout, split between the historic Borgo Antico (the old island city) and the bustling Borgo Nuovo (new town), with a few stunning luxury retreats tucked just outside the center. Deciding where to stay comes down to whether you want full resort relaxation, historic boutique charm, or sweeping sea views within walking distance of the sights.

The Luxury Countryside Escape

If budget isn’t a primary constraint and you want a true Puglia countryside experience, this is hands-down the top choice. Converted from an ancient farmhouse and surrounded by rolling hills and olive groves near the shore, it’s an incredibly quiet, peaceful oasis. What to expect: It features a world-class spa, an excellent on-site fine dining restaurant, and a beautiful outdoor pool area tucked among fig trees. The tradeoff: It sits about a 10-to-15-minute drive outside the city center, so you will need a car or taxi to go sightseeing.

The Best of Borgo Nuovo (Modern & Sea Views)

Located right in the center of town along Via Roma, this is arguably the most practical and well-rounded hotel for first-time visitors. It bridges the gap between the new town shopping streets and the historic center, making everything walkable. What to expect: Ask for a room facing the harbor for fantastic port views. Locals and past travelers highly praise their morning spread—it is routinely cited as one of the best breakfasts in the region. Good to know: Paid parking is available, which is a massive plus in central Taranto.

If you want a waterfront resort feel without leaving the city, the Delfino sits right on the edge of the Gulf of Taranto along Viale Virgilio. What to expect: Sweeping panoramic ocean views and a large outdoor pool right on the water. If you stay here, make sure to book one of the updated rooms in the renovated tower; they are sharp, minimalist, and modern. The tradeoff: Some of the standard rooms in the older wings can feel a bit dated.

Boutique Historic Stays (Borgo Antico)

Staying in the Old Town offers incredible character, but keep in mind that the historic core has a very raw, gritty, and authentic feel to it. Streets are narrow, and you'll be navigating older staircases rather than large elevators.

This boutique gem beautifully blends traditional stone architecture with hyper-clean, modern interior design. What to expect: It’s quiet, intimate, and many rooms feature gorgeous views of the sea. The service here is highly personalized, and they serve wonderful local wines from Puglia in the evenings. The tradeoff: The staircases are narrow and steep, which might be tricky if you have heavy luggage or mobility constraints.

Housed in a meticulously restored 1800s building near the entrance of the city, this 3-star property punches well above its weight. What to expect: Expect stunning historic charm—think high arched ceilings and exposed brick walls paired with top-tier modern fixtures. It also has a lovely rooftop terrace where you can look out over the water. The staff here are incredibly welcoming and act as fantastic local guides.
