If you're willing to stay just outside Piancavallo

Ciasa De Gahja in Budoia is worth considering. It's about 20 minutes from the resort by car and currently has a 9.2/10 Booking score from 379 reviews, with guests particularly mentioning the staff and quiet setting.

Piancavallo (a small ski resort in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy) has limited hotels right in the village, so many strong options are a short drive away in nearby towns like Budoia or Aviano.

Here are some of the best-regarded options based on recent guest ratings and reviews from Booking.com, Trivago, TripAdvisor, and similar sites:

Top picks in or very near Piancavallo

• Relais Sauc & SPA - Agriturismo (Budoia/Piancavallo area, roughly 1–2 km / under 1–1.5 miles away)
Frequently tops or ranks high on comparison sites. This 4-star agriturismo offers a spa, restaurant with local/own-produced ingredients, mountain views, garden, terrace, and free parking. Guests praise the friendly staff, cleanliness, comfort, food, and serene setting. Ratings typically 8.3–8.7+ (Very Good/Excellent), with some perfect scores in smaller samples. Ideal for couples or a relaxing stay with easy access to the slopes.

• Hotel Antares (also referred to as Hotel Bella Italia Piancavallo in some listings)
Located right in Piancavallo (Via Barcis), close to ski lifts, Nevelandia, and the ice rink. Amenities often include a spa area (saunas, Turkish bath, hot tub), restaurant, parking, and family-friendly features. Location is a big plus for skiers. Ratings are more mixed (around 3.1/5 on TripAdvisor from older reviews; ~7–7.4 on other platforms), with praise for convenience, staff, and food, but some notes that it can feel dated or that renovations (including a recent reopening/update) haven’t fully modernized everything. Good practical choice for slope access.

• Sport Hotel
Very close to a ski lift (around 30 meters). Guests note recent renovations, attentive staff, and solid overall experience. Lower volume of reviews but positive feedback on location and value for a ski stay.

• Dimora Casere apartments (1, 2, and 3 – zona centro)
Central self-catering apartments, some just 200 m from the ski slopes. High guest scores (often 9.0–9.7/Wonderful) for cleanliness, location, and comfort, though with fewer reviews than larger hotels. Suitable if you prefer independent stays.

Strong nearby options (short drive)

• Hotel Oliva (Aviano, ~4–6.5 km / 4 miles)
Consistently high ratings (9.2–9.3 Excellent, with over 1,000 reviews on some platforms). Features a rooftop terrace with mountain views, fitness center, free parking/Wi-Fi, and good access. Reliable, well-reviewed choice as a base for the resort.

• Ciasa De Gahja (Budoia, ~4.4–7 km)
Scores around 9.3 Excellent. Historic-feeling property with seasonal outdoor pool, spa, garden, and mountain/garden views. Guests like the quiet, attractive setting.

Other mentions include Ca’ Del Bosco and various apartments/residences with solid scores, plus farther options in the wider area if you’re flexible on driving.

Quick tips

• For skiing — Prioritize Hotel Antares/Sport Hotel or the Dimora Casere apartments for minimal transfer time. Relais Sauc is still very convenient.
• For spa/relax/quiet — Relais Sauc or Ciasa De Gahja stand out.
• For higher volume of reviews and consistency — Hotel Oliva.
• Piancavallo is compact and family-oriented with slopes, hiking in summer, and facilities like Nevelandia. Winter is peak ski season; summer is quieter for outdoor activities.
• Ratings and availability fluctuate—check current prices, recent reviews, and exact distances on Booking.com, Trivago, or the hotel sites, especially for your dates. Many offer free parking and are pet-friendly or have ski storage.
